Instructions
- Use the permanent pen to trace the three flower patterns onto the tissue paper. Place a circle for the round dots and a straight line down the center of each oval shape. It is not necessary to trace the leaf patterns at this time.
- Press the tote to remove wrinkles. On the plain side of the tote, measure down approximately 4-1/2” from the top edge, center the pattern, and pin in place. Use the white sewing thread to baste around the outer edge of each flower. When all three are basted, cut away the extra tissue paper between flowers, leaving each pattern on a separate piece of tissue.
- With the beading needle, use two strands of the Natural Silamide and the single bead attachment stitch (Figure 1) to attach the Yellow Opaque beads in the center of each flower. To begin bead attachment, place a knot in the end of the thread and start with the center circle of the cluster. Sew through the tissue paper. When the center round beads are attached, end thread on the inside of the tote and tie off. Repeat for other two flower centers.
Note: Begin and end all stitches/bead attachments in the same manner, as indicated in step 3.
- Use two strands of the Navy Silamide and the single bead attachment stitch (Figure 1) to attach the Blue Oval beads. Start next to the center beads, working each petal. Place the first oval bead of the petal with the tip of the bead next to the round center bead as indicated on basted pattern. Work outward until the four beads are in place. When the last oval is attached, take the needle/thread down into the fabric and bring the needle up just before the first oval placed. Go back through that bead, taking the needle/thread down into the fabric between the round bead and the tip of the oval bead. Bring needle/thread up in position to place the first oval bead of the next petal. Complete all the flowers in this manner.
- Once all beads are attached for a single flower, clip the basting thread and gently remove the tissue paper. Use the tweezers for those pieces of tissue that cling under the beads.
- Use a piece of tissue paper to trace nine leaf patterns. Cut out nine leaves from the Apple Green felt.
- Pin leaves in place around the flowers, referring to color photo for placement.
- Use a straight stitch (Figure 2) with two strands of No. 704 Bright Chartreuse floss to stitch each leaf along the outer edge. Use two strands of the floss and the split stitch (Figure 3) to place a center vein and two short veins on each side of the center vein.
- Use two strands of Natural Silamide and the single bead attachment (Figure 1) to attach a row of beads around the top edge of the tote, just under the folded selvage. Alternate attaching a Blue Oval bead and a Yellow Opaque bead, referring to color photo.
