Holiday 2009

The holiday season is certainly the busiest time of the year for most folks, and even more so if you are a crafter. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, not only do crafters (myself included) want to create the perfect holiday atmosphere in our homes and make amazing gifts for friends and family, we are also driven to trim the house to perfection for our guests’ pleasure. Don’t even get me started on the baking! As much as I love the entire holiday season, thinking through this mental list of preparation is enough to make me break into a cold sweat.

Of course, it would be foolish to tell you that this special holiday issue of Create & Decorate will make your holidays less stressful. In fact, I’m positive you will find several projects inside this magazine that you will happily add to your already lengthy to-do list. We do, however, share a multitude of creative ways for you to decorate your home from harvest through Christmas, and guide you in changing the look of your nest with the seasons.

Since the holidays are synonymous with family, we felt the timing of this issue was perfect to introduce our new feature, Generations. In every issue, we will introduce a designer who has shared their love of crafting with different generations of their family or group of friends. This issue we meet up with Sharon Baum and her daughter, Sarah Small. Together they have created a project, in a combination of their mediums of choice, which will help you wrap your holiday gifts up in style. You will also discover plenty of pumpkin and gourd patterns to paint and stitch for your Thanksgiving table within our Harvest Collection. One of our favorite Holiday Collection projects is sewn and embroidered into the Merry Christmas Advent Calendar, crafted by Claire Meldrum. Start this design now, so that it is finished to hang in time for the countdown to begin on December 1st.

You will discover so many wonderful projects to craft within this special issue, creatively inspired from the warm colors of autumn to the traditional colors of Christmas. Projects that will make your house the place to come home to for the holidays. Enjoy the changing holidays, and don’t forget to put your feet up now and then.
